Imagine you are the Chief Minister of a State and you go to attend a meeting. When you go there, different party members surround you to greet you and talk to you. If you remember the names of the various party members and know well about their family members, how good they will feel. The thought that you know them personally will make them feel well-treated. In the hospitality sectors like hotels and restaurants, the importance of giving special treatment is more. If the restaurant staffs are trained to remember the details of customers along with their favourite choices, it can be a beneficial strategy. Imagine when a client enters, at the entrance the gatekeeper stands wishing him Good Evening Sir and then manager comes to wish him Welcome Mr. Sharma or Ms. Preeti Aggarwal. Then the waiter comes saying ‘Sir would you like to have tomato soup as starter as always’. This will make the client feel extremely happy and well-treated. Next time, he will bring along his family and also recommend his friends to go to your restaurant.
Education
Suppose you are the class teacher and there is a parents teacher meeting. You keep yourself ready with all the facts of the child’s performance in mind in all the subjects. When parents of a child enter the classroom, you greet them with a smile addressing as Hello Mr. and Mrs. Nayak, please be seated. You tell them about their child’s merits and demerits and his/her performance in every subject without reading in the report card, parents of the child will be impressed of you. The faith in your ability to teach the child well and factually will increase. In the same way, if as principal, you know the names of students of different classes, how happy and important they will feel. This feel good factor will develop a sense of belonging with the school. This in turn will help the child feel happier in school enjoying his studies. By giving importance to the student, a teacher can actually create the interest of child in the subject which is not of his interest.
Retail Showrooms and Consumer Stores
Suppose you have a consumer store and you take note of all the customers, keeping in mind their names and individual preferences. Now one of your old customers comes to your store and you immediately inform them that their favourite brand is available today. Just imagine how good your customer will feel when you address them by name and inform about their favourite choice. Your customer will be glad to get a special treatment and they would recommend everyone to buy things from your store quoting the example of your great hospitality.
Thus, sharp memory and a quick mind is the requirement of every business.
