MIND RESISTS CHANGE

The saying goes that “old habits die hard.” The reason for this saying is that it is very difficult to unlearn anything, and to make changes in one’s thinking, attitudes, behaviour patterns and lifestyles. There is another saying which states that “you cannot teach an old dog, new tricks”. This really means that old habits and patterns become so ingrained in a person over time that it becomes even more difficult to change his thinking and attitude, especially towards adopting new ways of learning.

The mind is ever resistant to change. It does not get out of a particular kind of mind set with ease. When there is a change in weather, and summer changes to winter, we are not ready to start wearing woollen clothes immediately even when the temperature falls up to 13 degrees. Similarly, when summer arrives we do not stop wearing woollen clothes till it is 23 degrees. This is only because of the reason that our subconscious mind is not ready to change its routine. However, our regular conscious effort forces our subconscious mind to adopt the new changes and then that subconscious mind begins to stick to the new changes.

The same thing will happen with your learning strategy. When we adopt a new learning strategy our old learning style resists it because our mind always resists changes. By keeping in mind the benefits of this new learning strategy, you will have to make regular and conscious efforts to bring about the change in you. You will need to put in a lot of effort to help change your subconscious mind in favour of this. Only then will it become your natural learning strategy. Rest assured that putting in the effort will bear fruit. That is the only way you will be on your way to become a Memory King.
